Description
Vintage French 18k Yellow Gold, Ruby & Pearl Enamel Bangle Bracelet Attributed to Charles Danthu (66.68g.)
A jewel of extraordinary rarity, this antique French bracelet is a masterwork of 19th–early 20th century design, carrying the full weight of history, artistry, and prestige. Crafted in 18k yellow gold and weighing 66.68 grams, the piece is stamped with the French rhinoceros head hallmark for flexible gold, complete with bigorne countermarks on the reverse. These marks, exclusive to post-1838 French assay practices, guarantee authenticity and distinguish this jewel as a true period treasure. Most notably, it bears the elusive maker’s mark “C†D,” attributed to Charles Danthu, a Parisian master jeweler renowned for his artistry and known to have produced pieces for Cartier — placing this bracelet in direct lineage with the golden age of haute joaillerie.
The bracelet itself is a showcase of opulence and refinement: pavé-set with over 60 cabochon rubies, accented by 10 oval rubies and further embellished with 124 natural seed pearls (one pearl now absent as a testament to its age). The harmony of rich red rubies and luminous pearls against hand-crafted goldwork is further elevated with intricate enamel details evoking the luxury and splendor of the era. To encounter such a jewel outside of a museum or royal archive is exceedingly rare; it is not only a wearable ornament but an heirloom of cultural and artistic significance.
This is more than a bracelet — it is a collectible masterpiece, a testament to the genius of French craftsmanship and its enduring contribution to the history of fine jewelry. PM Number: PM2018238.
